Metrolinx breaks ground on second new station on the Scarborough subway extension

Major construction work is underway on the second of three stations for the Scarborough Subway Extension. Crews have broken ground on the second new station at Lawrence Avenue and McCowan Road in Toronto. The finished station will feature a bus terminal with connections to express services on Lawrence Avenue, expanding transit in east Toronto.
The three-stop subway will extend the Toronto Transit Commission's Line 2 by 7.8 km from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing transit for those heading in and out of the downtown core and those traveling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT) and is slated for completion in 2029 or 2030.
Work on the first of the three new stations began in September 2025. The new station will accommodate more than 5,000 riders, support more than 4,000 transfers during rush hour, feature a terminal linking to express bus services on Lawrence Avenue and provide a subway connection to Scarborough General Hospital and more than 3,400 job opportunities.
Ontario is building the largest subway expansion in Canadian history, which includes the Ontario Line, Scarborough Subway Extension, Eglinton Crosstown West Extension and Yonge North Subway Extension.
