MBTA releases Request for Proposals for Centralized Train Control System

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) will be seeking proposals for a Centralized Train Control (CTS) system for rail transit operations. The intent is to identify and select a commercial, off-the-shelf solution with implementation to begin later this calendar year. The RFP will be posted on August 21, 2026.
The RFP objective is to identify and select a commercial, largely off-the-shelf replacement to modernize its current system. Implementation will start later this calendar year. The RFP will outline overall objectives and requirements in more detail.
It is expected that responses to the RFP will be due on September 8, 2026. The bid will be posted and managed on www.commbuys.com.
