FRA signs $3 billion FSP Intercity Passenger Rail Grant for Brightline West

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has signed a $3-billion grant agreement with the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) for the Brightline West project, a high-speed rail project set to connect Southern California to Las Vegas, with trains traveling over 200 miles per hour. In December 2023, President Biden announced the Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail Grant for the project.
This 218-mile passenger rail service will operate from Las Vegas to Rancho Cucamonga, California, with 96% of its alignment within the median of the I-15 highway.
Brightline West expects to serve more than 9 million one-way passengers annually. Construction is expected to take about 4 years with service beginning in 2028. The project is on pace to initiate operations in 2028.
